Good movers, mediocre estimators
The movers for Blue Whale did an excellent job with my belongings during a local move. Not a thing was broken or damaged, and the guys were very courteous. Overall it was an easy move.
My only complaint is that their estimator has no idea how things actually work on moving day. First off, it took three phone calls and five e-mails to get the inventory list correct. During the onsite visit by their sales-person, I was promised several things that turned out to be completely false:
- The movers will completely unhook and reconnect your washer/dryer (They cannot legally disconnect or reconnect a gas line)
- The guys are trained on how to install the moving bolts on front loading washers (they cannot do this for liability reasons)
- Just stack all your garden tools into a trash can and we can charge it as one item (the guys dealt with it, but had never heard that suggested before)
- Every item of furniture will be wrapped in pads before being carried out of the home (not the way it actually worked)
One word of advice, and this applies to ANY moving company you choose. Get the inventory list correct before moving day, and be meticulous about it. The estimators are often lax on getting the inventory perfect, and it is important. Anything, and I mean anything, that is not listed on the inventory and is not in a cardboard box will be charged as extra on moving day.
For that reason, I wish Blue Whale had been a little bit more attentive to getting the inventory right, or at least responding to me when I tried to make corrections.
Top quality movers from Blue Whale on moving day, but take control of the inventory yourself as they don't seem to take it too seriously until a check is due.
